Long
before the village of Salado was ever formed, the area had long been known to
Native
Americans for Salado Creek and the multiple springs in the area. It was
first called Salado Springs by the Tawakoni Indians,
who formed a settlement here long ago. In their language, the term “Salado”
meant “salty.” Evidence shows that even before the Tawakoni were here, Paleo-Indian
tribes were also known to utilize the waters of the area for thousands of years.
