How To Get Rid of a Ghost

The Phantom slowly, gravely, silently approached … Scrooge bent down upon his knee; for in the very air through which this Spirit moved it seemed to scatter gloom and mystery.

Do you think you have a ghost?  Do you want it to go away?

No, that’s not a dumb question.

Some people don’t mind spirits being around. In fact, I am one of those someone’s.  However, I’ve never had a bad experience with a ghost. If you don’t mind them, you can learn to “tune them out”; much like you might tune out the noise of a train that passes close to your home.  Some commercial businesses, such as restaurants and hotels, actually appreciate them, because they can help their business.

However, if you really want the ghost to go away, you can try a couple of things.  Also, make sure that you read those things that you should NOT do.

To Do:

  • The easiest way to get rid of a ghost is to simply ask it to leave.   Use a firm voice and tell the ghost exactly what you want and why.  You might say something like this: “This is my house and it bothers me when you are around all the time.  Would you please leave?”   Remember, the physical world is your domain and ghosts rarely have any power in the physical world.
  • Ghosts don’t always know that they are dead.  You may have to explain to them that they are dead, that they no longer belong in the physical world and will be better off if they move toward the light.
  • Sometimes you may have to ask what the spirit wants.  This is often the case with someone who has recently passed over who may be attempting to communicate to you about something.  Afterwards, they are happy to leave.
  • Use your imagination to “see” loved ones, angels, or guides coming to
    take them to the light.

DO NOT:

  • When telling the ghost to “go away”, do not yell or sound angry.
  • Do not give the spirit recognition by talking about it in your home, or maybe avoid talking about it all together.  This provides the spirit with energy, making it more powerful.
  • Try not to show fear.  It is your home and the spirit can generally do you no harm.  Fear can also provide the spirit with energy.
  • DO NOT use Ouija boards, Tarot cards, séances, or witchcraft when dealing with anything that is supernatural.  These items may actually increase spiritual activity and/or “open doors” that invite demonic and other unwanted spirits.

So long as the stories multiply… and so few are positively explained away, it is bad method to ignore them.

– William James, American psychologist, in a lecture

  1. My name is David and I have a ghost that has followed me since the third grade at first the sycollogysts told me it’s all in my head at the time I was Teri fide it would sit at my desk and watch me and I would have dreams where it talked to me, but when I was in the end of my third grade year it picked up a flashlight that fell off my bookshelf and put it back up when my freinds noticed it but dI didn’t see him I knew It wasn’t all in my head. After that day I didn’t mind it I thought of it as a guardian angel up until it started getting aggressive nocking things down my dog would put his fro up and bark then seconds later crawl under the blanket and wimper. At thathe point I was really scared my mom took pictures of where I pointed and there was always an orb. When I got in the sixth grade I hothink the nerve to tell it to go away but I was stuttering out of fear it got stronger and stronger I’m 16 now almost a Junior in high school and it can talk a little I’m still terrified and I’m scared it might do something my family other than my dad and mom don’t be level me somewhere along the line I named him Carl and started talking to him know all he says is get out of my house and you don’t belong here. Sometimes like right now I get what my doctors are telling me is ptsd from all the car accident’s I’ve been in and all he does is try to convince me to hurt myself while I’m freaking out and every time I say stop it I stutter and sound like I’m on the verge of tears he laughs and I start crying go on walks sounding crazy talking to myself saying he’s not real it’s all in your head and I always get a response listen to me David you don’t belong here nobody cares about you, You’re better off dead. I just get louder and try to hit him but I can’t my hand either goes through and I get a chill or he moves and keeps talking. I can’t hurt him, convince him he’s dead or keep my cool long enough to tell him to leave. If you could respond my that would make my day, thank you.
    -sincerely David
