treasure trove of frontier architecture built around an 1864 gold strike.
Visitors can still enjoy the Fairweather Inn, Madison County Courthouse,
Montana's Masonic Lodge No. 1, Dance and Stuart's General
Merchandise store, St. Paul's Episcopal Church, and the
Thompson-Hickman Memorial Library and Museum -- then take the
steam-powered Alder Gulch Shortline Railroad to nearby historic
Nevada City. Postcard is new and in mint
condition.

The town consists of more than 20 buildings relocated to this site from
throughout the state and furnished with thousands of unique relics of the

City, Montana. The Fairweather Inn was named for Bill
Fairweather, a member of the party of seven who first discovered gold in the
historic Alder Gulch in 1863. Vintage postcard is unused and in very good
condition.
Boot
Hill, Virginia City, Montana - Text on back: Boot Hill, historic
Virginia
City, Montana. Five of the "Road Agents" hanged, Clubfoot George Lane, Hayes
Lyons, Jack Gallagher, Boone Helm and Frank Parish, were buried in Virginia
City's old cemetery now known as Boot Hill. Vintage postcard is unused and in
very good condition.

Gulch, Dakota Territory and that is how the town of Deadwood was born. All of downtown is a National Historic Landmark.
When you walk down Main Street, it is like setting your watch back 100
years.

Mount Moriah Cemetery,
Deadwood, South Dakota
- Text on back:
Wild Bill Hickok (1837-1876) American frontier scout and famed
lawman of the West.
Hickok liked to gamble at cards and while playing in a poker game, he was
shot in the back by Jack McCall, on August 2, 1876.
Wild Bill was holding
Ace's and Eight's when he was shot, forever after called the "Dead Man's
Hand." Calamity Jane (1852-1903) was the nickname of Martha Jane Canary, a
famous American frontierswoman. She was an expert with horse and rifle and
served as a scout for
General George Custer. She was in
Deadwood
during the time
Wild Bill Hickok was shot and killed. Today they lie next to one
another in the Mt. Moriah Cemetery.

Stokes Castle, Austin, Nevada
- Text on back: Stokes
Castle 1897. Built by Anson Phelps Stokes, member of a prominent eastern
railroad family. The original intent was for a residence. Reese River
can be seen a few miles in the background at record flood stage. Pony
Express Riders and stage coaches didn’t bother to slow down for it.

Bannack, Montana
- Text on back: Bannack, Montana is one of the Big
sky Country's best-preserved ghost towns. Protected as a state park, it marks
the site of the first major gold strike in Montana Territory, a region over
which it served as capital in the early 1860's -- until the gold ran out. Today,
tourists can explore both inside and outside most of the historic buildings.

on back: I decided that the high ground in Rhyolite would be a good
camera location to photograph the Panamint, Amargosa and Grapevine
mountain ranges in Death Valley National Park. (background) The
