Lewis & Clark Expedition
- Text on back: The
Lewis and Clark Expedition, 1804 through 1806. The
Lewis and Clark Expedition
(properly known as the Corps of Discovery) was commissioned by President
Thomas Jefferson in 1802. Meriwether Lewis and William Clark led this
two-year exploration of the Northwest, beginning May 21, 1804 and ending
September 23, 1806. The journey proved valuable in documenting the
geography and people of the land newly acquired by the United States
through the Louisiana Purchase.
Greetings
from the United States - The United States of America. The
United States of America has a population of over 2,000,000,000 spread
over an area of 3,615,211 square miles. That represents 6% of the
world's inhabitants and and 6.3% of its land area. It is the 4th
largest country of the world (after C.I.S. formerly the U.S.S.R.,
Canada and China) and is young as nations go. Geography and man teamed
in extraordinary partnership to make the United States of America one
of the most powerful and prosperous nations the world has seen.
