From Oklahoma - Oklahoma's
name is derived from two Choctaw words: "Okla" meaning people and "humma"
meaning red, literally meaning red people. There are currently thirty-five
tribes of
Indians
living in Oklahoma. Oklahoma
has the second largest
Indian
population of any state in the Union. Descendants of the original sixty-seven
tribes inhabiting Indian Territory still live in
Oklahoma. Postcard is new, unused, and in mint condition.

Mound Park, Moundville, Alabama. Diorama of Excavation. An exhibit in the
museum. The diorama is built to show a two-time phase. To the left shows
the actual excavation being conducted at the present time, while to the
right it shows a restoration of what the site would have looked like
during
Indian times. The park and museum are open all year. Picnicking and
nature trails. Bring your camera. Postcard is unused and in very good
condition.
Navajo Indian Hogan
- Text on back: Nav ajo Indians and
their hogan. The colorful nomadic Navajo Indians are located in extensive
reservations in northern Arizona and New Mexico. Famous for their artistic
Navajo rugs and silver ewelry, they live in primitive circular hogans and
depend on sheep and cattle raising for their livelihood. Postcard is has
writing on back, but is not postmarked, dated 1968.
Indian City USA, Indian Capital, Oklahoma

Hogan at Indian City USA located on the site of the massacre
of the tonkawa Indians by a band of Shawnees and other
mercenaries during the Civil War. A living memorial to the

Cartersville, Georgia. This important Indian site was a village and ceremonial
center from about 800 A.D. to 1550 A.D. The mound area, with museum displaying
artifacts, is open to visitors. The site is operated by the Georgia Historical
