Fort Union Santa Fe Trail Ruts
- Text
on back: Fort Union National Monument,
New Mexico. New
Mexico's Fort Union Monument was established to preserve
this historic military depot on the
Santa Fe
Trail. Used
continually from 1821 until 1880, the 900-mile trail was a
major trade route that brought an estimated 2,000 wagons
west each year. Shown here is one of the many eroded remains
of the Mountain Branch near Fort Union. Though longer and
more rugged than the Cimarron Branch, many chose this route
because of readily available water and fewer problems with
the Native Americans along the way. Postcard is new, unused
and in mint condition.

Miguel Church, Santa Fe, New Mexico - Text on

as now seen, in 1888. The old church is built of large
sun-dried bricks; the walls, which are covered with a layer
of mud, both inside and out-side, are from three to five
feet thick. Vintage postcard is unused and in good

Tucumcari,
New Mexico. Tucumcari Mountain located near

that: An Apache Chief by the name of Wautonamah lived on the
mountain with his beautiful daughter Kari. The Apache chief
had two braves of his tribe picked as prospective husbands
for Kari and to follow him as chief-one Tonapon, whom she
hated, and the other, Tocom, whom she loved. The Chief
suggested a duel with daggers for her hand. Kari over-heard
the plan, hid in the trees, and when Tonapon killed Tacom,
rushed out and killed Tonapon and herself, falling across
Tocom's body. The Chief hearing the news killed himself with
Kari's dagger crying "To-com-Kari." This vintage postcard is
