Angeles January 13, 1929. Today no
western peace officer is more celebrated than
Wyatt
Earp, the man who gained fame in
Dodge
City,
Kansas
and
Tombstone ,
Arizona.
Wyatt
was best known for his part in the shoot-out at the
O.K. Corral, in
Tombstone ,
Arizona,
where he, his brothers Virgil and Morgan, and
Doc
Holliday, fought it out with the Clanton Gang.
Pony
Express Station, Marysville, Kansas - Text on Back:
Pony Express
Station No. 1, Marysville,
Kansas.
Built in 1859-60,
Pony Express
Station No. 1 is the only station remaining on its original
location on the Pony Express trail from
St.
Joseph,
Missouri, to
Sacramento,
California. After riding 12 hours from
St.
Joseph and changing horses at 13 relay stations, this station
was "home," as another rider continued westward.

sandstone concretions, is a curious geological formation. Vintage

Nicodemus
- 1885 - Text on back - Nicodemus National Historic Site,
Kansas. View of Washington Street,
Nicodemus in 1885. Founded in
September, 1877, Nicodemus already consisted of about 300 Black
settlers. By the mid-1880's, Nicodemus had been transformed into a
prosperous town. They boasted of two newspapers, three general
stores, at least three churches, a number of small hotels, one
school, literary society, ice cream parlor, a bank, a livery,
numerous homes and more.

preserves, protects and interprets the only remaining western town
established by African Americans during the Reconstruction Period
following the Civil War. The town of
Nicodemus is symbolic of the
pioneer spirit of African-Americans who dared to leave the only
region they had been familiar with to seek personal freedom and
the opportunity to develop their talents and capabilities.
