Discoveries America North Carolina DVD
The Wright Brothers made
first powered flight in North Carolina, today there’s a monument to their
achievement, & museum with replica of their original flyer. Kitty Hawk
Kites bring passion of flying with ultra lights and kite boards. Hang
gliding classes are popular in Jockey’s Ridge, a natural sand dune on the
Outer Banks. Wilmington is historic city with waterfront with over 200
historic buildings, historic homes, museums & antique shops. Community’s
third annual Bluegrass Festival helps support historic Thalean Hall.
Lowe’s Motor Speedway is home of NASCAR. The track also used by Buck Baker
Racing School, where enthusiasts learn skills of driving racecars. Love
Valley, an isolated mountain community whose members include modern
cowboys. Penland School of Crafts is an institution founded on love of
materials – clay, stone, wood, metal, fibers & textiles. Arval Woodey has
been turning wooden chairs for decades, all made without nails or glue,
held by tight fitting joints of his masterful woodwork. Today, Mast
General Store operates on same principles that kept it in business for
almost one hundred years. A place where aspiring musicians get together &
play their music, Young’s Mountain Music draws a crowd and has sent many a
would-be entertainer to Nashville.
