The nomadic
Blackfeet
lived in tipis, that were easy to put up and take down. Women were
responsible for making the tipi from deerskin, buffalo, antelope, or
moose hides. The tribe was known for the beautiful designs that
adorned the tipis, which were also painted by the women usually to
honor animal and nature spirits. It was believed that these designs
would protect their families. The women were also responsible for
putting up and taking down the tipis, which they were able to
accomplish in about 20 minutes.
