Harrison Avenue was and is Leadville's main thoroughfare. During its heydays, hundreds of businesses thrived on this bustling street, which is today, filled with historic buildings and designated as part of a National Historic Landmark District. In addition to the many vintage buildings on Harrison Avenue, the district is also comprised of seventy square blocks of Victorian architecture and is adjoined by the twenty square mile Leadville mining district, where many old mines and cabins dot the landscape. The principal historic buildings include the Tabor Grant Hotel, St. George's Church, Annunciation Church, Tabor Opera House, City Hall, Healy House, Dexter Cabin, Engelbach House, and Tabor House, as well as numerous mining structures and small homes.
