Cemetery in Bannack, Montana

Graveyard in Bannack Montana

Bannack Graveyard by John Vachon, 1942.

Bannack, Montana Cemetery

Bannack Cemetery today, July, 2008, Kathy Weiser.

Located on a hill just north of Bannack and east of the gallows is the old cemetery. Utilized from 1862 to about 1880, it holds a number of graves, but most are no longer marked. Given more than a century of harsh winters and crude markers to begin with, Mother Nature has reclaimed all but a few stone markers. Bannack's most "famous" citizen, Sheriff Henry Plummer, was not buried here, but rather was interred in Hangman's Gulch about 100 yards beyond the gallows, without benefit of a marker. Another cemetery lies outside of Bannack, just off the county road. That cemetery began to be used around 1876 and has about 60 graves that are still marked.

Saloon Style Advertising Prints - What were on the walls of the saloons in the Old West?  Likely, much of the same as those you find today - advertisements for liquor, beer, and tobacco.  Plus the "decadent" women of the time.  In our Photo Print Shop, you'll find dozens of photographs for decorating your "real" saloon or den in a saloon type atmosphere.
