Continue from Cuba on MO-ZZ through Fanning

 

Turn left on to MO-KK and continue to Rosati.

 

Continue on MO-KK to St. James, where the road name changes to James Boulevard.

Rosati Winery (1898) at 22050 Highway KIK, St. James

Old Derby Station on Highway KK, St. James.

Turn right onto Jefferson St. (MO-68) in St. James.

Johnnie’s Bar on the southwest corner of James Blvd and Jefferson St.

Cross I-44 at exit 195 and make sharp left onto north outer road.

 

Continue on the north service road as the name changes to Rose Mary Avenue, then Old Highway 66, then CR-29, CR-2020, and CR-2000 into Rolla.

Route 66 Motors and Gift Shop (1979) at 12661 Old Highway 66.

Mule Trading Post at 11160 Dillon Outer Road at I-44 Exit 189.

Turn left (south) onto US-63/Bishop Avenue and continue, crossing I-44 near Exict 186.

Turn right onto Kings Hiway/BL-44.

Maid-Rite Diner at 1028 Kings Highway, Rolla.

Left onto Martin Springs Drive/CR-7100 (south service road) just before Kings Hgwy crosses I-44.

Totem Pole Trading Post (1933) at 1413 martin Springs Drive, Rolla.

Zeno's Motel and Steak House (1957) at 1621 Martin Springs Drive, Rolla.

Pinga’s Tortilla Flats Restaurant, formerly Hillside Tavern (1920’s), at 14775 CR-7100, Martin Springs.

Continue on to Doolittle, where the road name changes to Eisenhauser Street/CR-762.

 

 

West of Doolittle, road name changes to CR-762/CR-7300.

 

Cross over and join I-44, at Exit 176 in Arlington, for the next 3 ½ miles.

Sugartree outer road/CR-8490 on the north side of Exit 176 dead-ends after 2.1 miles west. Here are John’s Modern Cabins (1935,) long closed, and Vernelle’s Motel, now a private residence, at 10891 Sugartree Outer Road.

Totem Pole Tourist Camp cabins (1933) past Vernelle’s on the Sugartree Outer Road.

Beacon Hill Motel and Restaurant also on the  Sugartree Outer Road, now a private residence.

Two 1952 bridges cross the Little Piney River in Arlington on the south outer road.

Exit I-44 at #172 onto the north service road (Powellville Outer Road)

Remains of Stony Dell Resort (1932), Exit 172, east on Highway D in Jerome.

Larry Baggett’s Trail of Tears, Exit 172, east on Highway D in Jerome.

Turn left on to MO-J at Exit 169, cross over I-44, and turn right (southwest) on MO-Z (south service road.)

 

Turn left onto Teardrop Road, just before the Big Piney River, to head into Devil’s Elbow.

An alternate alignment is also here, the first 4-lane divided highway in Missouri (1942-1981.) To access, continue straight on MO-Z, instead of turning onto Teardrop Road.  

Continue on through Devil’s Elbow and turn left onto MO-Z/south service road.  

Elbow Inn and BBQ Pit, former Munger Moss Sandwich Shop (1929) at 21050 Teardrop Rd.

Devils Elbow Bridge (1923) over the Big Piney River.

Sheldon’s Market, formerly Miller’s Market (1954) at 12175 Timber Road.  

Charles McCoy’s Store and Camp (1941-54) on Timber Road.

River Park on Teardrop Road was formerly Graham’s Cabins and Store.

Vista Point at top of the hill on Teardrop Road.

Stay on MO-Z to St. Robert.

 

In St. Robert, just west of intersection with Missouri Ave, road splits to BL-44 and Old Route 66. Veer left onto Old Route 66.

DeVille Motor Inn at 461 Old Route 66, St. Robert.

Frog Rock, a rock formation painted to look like a giant frog, on the way to Waynesville.

Old Route 66 then rejoins BL-44 into Waynesville, where it’s also called MO-17.

 

Continue on with the Waynesville to Springfield
